The program was designed to develop a methodology for avionic system design application to aircraft in an advanced time period. Emphasis was placed on two major activities. One was concerned with identifying the requirements for the operatoravionic system in the future time period, and a second activity was concerned with identifying the technological state-of-the-art that would be available in the advanced time period to meet those requirements. Successive aspects of the study were concerned with synthesizing an avionic system, completing a costeffectiveness evaluation, and the preparation of a cockpit mockup. Volume I describes a 27-step process that can be applied to any aircraft system early in the developmental cycle. Author
