Abstract:

A statistical study was made of the tensile properties of plasticized PVC as a function of processing variables and environmental exposure. For this purpose, the performance of three polyester plasticizers was studied in a typical 105C. wire-coating formulation. Tensile properties were measured before and after oven aging. It was found that it is possible to get spuriously high per cent retention of elongation by under-fusing this type of formulation. To prevent deliberate use of this phenomenon to make sub-standard formulations pass when they should fail, the specifications should be modified. Author
