Abstract:
The condensation and sublimation of mixtures of CO2 with H2O have been studied at temperatures between 80 and 230 K. Evidence is presented for the existence of metastable, solid-phase H2O.CO2. With near-equilibrium condensation the measured heats of sublimation of CO2 and H2O are independent of the mixing ratio it is therefore unlikely that CO2 and H2O will co-precipitate on Mars at temperatures appreciably higher than required for CO2 to condense alone.
