Miniature learning situations can be used to predict classroom performance. When a single program is used to obtain a measure of learning ability, the combination of the resulting gain measure of learning ability with a measure of verbal intelligence leads to an appreciably higher validity than can be obtained when either measure is used singly. Since programmed instruction provides an effective miniature learning situation, suggestions are made for further research dealing with the possibility of using other complex learning tasks as miniature learning situations and with the relationships among the various gain measures of learning which would be developed.
