The report summarizes basic thermodynamics, electrochemistry, and internal energy losses of satellite nickel cadmium batteries presently in use by APL. Dependence of electrical parameters i.e., capacity, voltage, and current on temperature and loads is reviewed from a users point of view and generally reflects APLs experience in this area. Recommendations and guide lines are included for use in the design of a battery geared to operate for over two years in orbit. Author
