An extensive thermodynamic study of the system KCl-RbCl-H2O was made at 25C, the composition of the coexisting phases being determined over the entire range of component concentrations. The vapor pressure of water over saturated aqueous KCl and RbCl solutions was determined by an isopiestic method. The changes in the chemical potentials of the components with changes in the composition of the system along the solubility isotherm were calculated with the aid of the third component method. The free energy of formation of mixed KCl-RbCl crystals at 25C was calculated. Calculations were also made of a number of other thermodynamic functions. The experimental results permitted the conclusion as to the dissimilarity in behavior of the components in the formation of mixed crystals. The data of other investigators concerning the formation at t 25C of a continuous series of mixed KCl-RbCl crystals were confirmed. For the chemical analyses use was made of the radioactive tracers Rb86 and K42. Author
