Abstract:

Reflection interferometer measurements can be used to describe the propagation condition affecting the degree of ray-path bending. In combination with these measurements relatively simple meteorological measurements at the lake surface can indicate the magnitude of the refractivity gradient and its vertical extent. In combination, the two methods appear to provide a technique to determine the effective propagation conditions by direct radio signal diagnosis and with a minimum degree of meteorological support.
