Changes in the magnet system for the experimental monotron oscillator are described. These changes have resulted in the disappearance of rf output at frequencies harmonically related to the accelerator frequency and in the appearance of rf output at two new frequencies. This output is described and evidence is presented to indicate that it is the result of oscillations of the type expected. However the oscillations appear to involve a section of drift tube as a resonator rather than the actual millimeter wave cavity. Calculations are described which employ a digital computer to determine the electron trajectories in a TE sub n11 cylindrical cavity. The calculations indicate that significant bunching occurs as a result of the E theta field and that the bunch can be placed in a decelerating phase by making the beam angular velocity be less than that of the wave.
