Abstract:

This paper deals with order statistics from the binomial distribution. Let Xi i1,2,. . .,M be the number of successes in N independent trials from a binomial distribution with p as the probability of success, in each trial. Let Xi be arranged in order to give X1 or X2 or . . . or XM. The discrete variable Xi or Xi take values 0,1,. . .,Ni-1,. . .,M. Tables are provided giving the cumulative distribution and the expected value and variance of X1 and XM. Joint distribution of Xi and Xj is obtained. The distribution of Xj-Xi ji is also derived and special cases are studied. Some applications are described. Author
