The primary objective of this project was to determine the principal causes of human error in the use of the fire-control instruments employed by the field artillery and to develop improved designs of instruments which would reduce the frequency of such errors. In the course of this study, however, it became increasingly evident that the fire-control instruments are not the only contributors to error and that for a complete study of the problem, equal consideration must also be given to the errors arising from deficiencies in artillery procedures.
