A brief summary is given of studies directed toward the gain of new information concerning the mechanisms by which vapor phase molecules adhere to, and chemically combine with, solid surfaces. Hydrogen received most attention. The adsorbents were the metals iron, cobalt, and nickel, and various metal oxides, including Cr2O3, Fe2O3, MnO, and Al2O3. The experimental methods included classical gas adsorption studies, magnetic and electron spin resonance, and the parahydrogen conversion. The work has directed toward a better understanding of catalytic reactions involving heterogeneous systems.
