Abstract:

The five-term method developed for two arbitrarily located parallel antennas has been successfully extended to a general antenna array of N parallel elements. The method is illustrated with a planar array and a three-dimensional array. Arrays of both full-wave and half-wave elements are discussed. The array is characterized either by specifying driving voltages or by specifying input currents. When the array is of half-wave elements, the conventional EMF method which assumes sinusoidal currents is also carried out in detail for comparison. When the array is of full-wave elements, the EMF method is not applicable however, equal magnitude sinusoidal currents are assumed and carried out. The difference between these two theoretical results is not always negligible even for the case of half-wave elements or field pattern comparison. Author
