Abstract:

Evidence available as to trends in the distribution of nations by population size is examined. The data include information on the birth and death of nations of various sizes, population growth rates, and static data for the distribution of nations by size at particular points in time and from which we can test some inferences about random processes that might have generated those distributions. To anticipate, the available data are ambiguous but at least there is no good evidence that the distribution is changing or that there are forces at work which are notably increasing or weakening the degree of concentration.
