Abstract:

Various aspects of the theory of radar scattering by clouds are delineated. It is demonstrated that various ways of viewing single scattering by particle aggregates i.e. summation, Siegert-Goldstein, turbulent scatter are in fact theoretically equivalent. Other topics discussed are effects of receiver bandwidth, some points about the statistics of particle scattering, and a theory advanced by D. Atlas to explain discrepancies of 8-10 db between theoretical and observed cloud echo intensities. Author
