Abstract:

Two impact energy attenuators operating on the principle of cyclic straining of materials were tested to determine 1 maximum output accelerations and 2 resultant attenuator deflections. The attenuators were tested in tension with initial impact velocities from 914 to 1338 centimeters per second and maximum input accelerations from 21 G to 58 G. The attenuators were tested in compression with initial impact velocities from 546 to 855 centimeters per second.
