Abstract:

For large values of the pressure-gradient parameter beta i.e., highly accelerated flows, the order of the similarity equations governing the laminar boundary layer is reduced by two. Coles has shown that this is a singular perturbation problem for which an inner solution and an outer solution must be obtained. In the paper, inner and outer solutions are presented which include the effects of a power-law temperature-viscosity relation, nonunit Prandtl number, leading-edge sweep, and surface mass transfer. An extremely accurate method is described for estimating skin friction and heat transfer for all positive values of beta. Author
