Abstract:

A method is described by which the electron density and collision frequency of an ionized gas may be measured. The system utilizes the simultaneous transmission of microwave energy at three different frequencies through the slab of ionized gas. Transmission coefficients are determined at the three frequencies and from these the information is derived. The method is particularly adaptable at high values of collision frequency. A computer program for the calibration of the microwave system is contained in the report. Author
