Surface and 250 mb analyses for a 9-day summer period over the North Pacific, together with satellite photographs, are shown to illustrate 1 the development of a typhoon and a tropical storm from cyclonic cells in the tropical upper tropospheric trough, and 2 the dominance of the trough in producing tradewind weather. Author
