Abstract:

The report covers a transportation engineering analysis of the shock-attenuating capabilities of the Models 230 and 570 Long Travel Shock Mounts on cargoes having different weights, dimensions, and centers of gravity, and an analysis of the data recorded simultaneously on different types of recorders. Test results showed that the longitudinal shock at the center of gravity of the cargo boxes was generally increased when the height above the shock-mount loading platform was increased, and that vertical shock at the center of gravity was generally decreased when the height above the shock-mount loading platform was increased. Of the 160 impact tests recorded simultaneously on different types of recorders, 41 recordings were identical in all channels. In the remaining 119 recordings, the differences ranged from 0.1g to 8.5g. Author
