Abstract:
The use of polyethylene and polyvinylchloride as conductor insulating and cable sheathing materials has made possible a reduction in the cost of protecting distribution wires and cables from the damaging effects of lightning and commercial power voltages. Since many of the potentials which necessitated protection apparatus on paper insulated conductors will do no harm whatsoever to the plastic insulated conductors, there will be less protector maintenance expense and it is expected there will be less cable trouble.
