This report is concerned with the transmission of a high energy laser beam through an atmosphere containing aerosols. The experimental approach consists essentially in firing a high energy laser beam through an instrumented test chamber in which various known aerosols can be introduced. Various analyses are presented of the effects which may be expected, and experiments are described to demonstrate these effects. Breadboard experiments have been performed to verify certain experimental techniques and their description with some experimental results indicating a nonlinear interaction are included in this report. Finally, the specifications of an experimental test chamber in which laser beam experiments at pressures up to 10 atmospheres can be performed are included.
