Abstract:

The report presents two methods for obtaining the impedances of elliptic waveguide 1 using the exact theory, and 2 an approximate method using trial fields. In the exact solution the integrals involving Mathieu functions were solved by computer using the Gaussian quadratures method. The exact and the approximate results are plotted for comparison. The expressions giving the approximate impedances are within 6 of the exact values in all cases. The exact cut-off wavelength was obtained from the boundary conditions.
