Abstract:

The theory of Fourier transform spectroscopy is briefly reviewed, with emphasis on the computational methods required. The use of various functions for interpolation between data points is explored. None are found to have any advantage over the Dirac delta function, which leads to the simplest formula for computation. Algorithms have been found to speed the summation of the resulting series. Improvements of these algorithms are described which yield, with a minimum of additional computations, output points more closely spaced than permitted by sampling theory. The computer program written to include these features and instructions for use with a CDC 6000 series computer are presented. Author
