Abstract:
A technique is described for evaluating the visual alertness of humans. This technique utilizes a transistorized EEG analyzer consisting of an automatic signal level control, a number of paralleled active bandpass filters, and a switching arrangement to allow modification of bandpass characteristics by the user. The output of the analyzer consists of four D.C. signals, the voltage of each being proportional to the EEG activity within the variable frequency bands selected by the experimenter. This evaluation of visual alertness involves monitoring these four analyzer outputs while the subject performs a routine designed to provide alpha suppression.
