Abstract:
Research was undertaken in order to attain and measure the high degree of purity of specific monomers and to determine the effects of their high purity on the performance of the resultant polymer. Attempts were made to establish the ultimate performance that could be expected from selected polymers as well as the extent of effort required for purification of monomers beyond presently used procedures. The major portion of the research relates to polyhexamethyleneadipamide, nlyon 66, and the effects of the high purity of adipic acid and hexamethylenediamine on various properties of the polyamide. Research was also initiated on the purification and measurement of purity monomers and solvents for polymerization to polyethylene methylene bis4-phenylcarbamate. Author
