Abstract:
The high speeds of present-day aircraft, and the much higher speeds of projected supersonic transports and lifting re-entry vehicles, have added a new dimension, viz. temperature, to an old problem of aircraft design, the interaction between aerodynamic forces and elastic structures. The paper constitutes a brief review of the state of the art of relating temperatures, structural deformations, and aerodynamic loads. The review considers first some representative structural problems, and then the interrelation between structural deformation and aerodynamic loads. Author
