Abstract:

The article analyzes the possibilities of using waveguide devices of shf range for the construction of logic elements for high-speed digital computers. A description is given of developed AND, OR and NOT elements built around printed microstrips for shf, with the use of amplitude modulation of shf energy by crystal modulators. The half-adder and the three-digit adder are also described. The application of printed microstrips made it possible to obtain logic elements that are simple and small as compared to waveguide type. Diode gate circuits make it possible to attain very high speed of operation, but existing microwave diodes are poorly matched structurally with printed microstrips. A deficiency of printed microstrips is that they permit satisfactory operation only to 6000 Mc. In the 10,000 Mc range it was found that the printed microstrips introduce great losses and distortion.
