Two approaches were followed in the cesium oven design and tests were performed on ovens representing each design. The objective in the oven design is to obtain good reliability with a minimum of complexity. The choice of oven design is not yet settled. Some tests were performed to measure the ionization efficiency of various ionizer materials, but the preliminary results were inconclusive, due to an inadequacy in the experimental design. An improved cesium getter test apparatus was designed and built. It is ready to receive the first test samples. These samples can be irradiated with more than 10 to the 22nd power atomssq cm, using the new test apparatus, which should be adequate for the required getter evaluations. Measurements were made of the performance of dipole and multipole optics tubes under acceleration, using a rotating table to produce the acceleration. This is the first time such a quantitative measurement has been made on a multipole tube. The results showed that the total signal level should change less than 1 percent for a spin rate of 10 rpm. Thus the improved performance under acceleration, which is expected theoretically for multipole optics systems, has been verified experimentally. Author
