Abstract:
The nonsymmetric vibration of shells of revolution is studied by means of classical thin-shell theory. Approximations are found by asymptotic methods for the eight solutions of the system. The behavior of the solutions when the frequency becomes either large or small is discussed. The approximations are used to give general descriptions of the types of natural frequencies and modes that can be found. In particular, the occurrence of very low natural frequencies associated with inextensional modes is shown to be impossible in many cases. Author
