A wide range radiac instrument was developed to measure gamma radiation dose-rates from 1 mRhr to 1000 Rhr in six linear ranges. The circuit is a hybrid type using an ion chamber for the four high ranges of 0-1, 10, 100, 1000 Rhr, and a G.M. tube, for the two low ranges 0-10, 100 mRhr, contained in a detachable probe. An interesting feature of the circuit is the solid-state electrometer amplifier which uses insulated gate field-effect transistors in the input stage and its combination with a Geiger Mueller frisking probe to attain increased sensitivity.
