Abstract:

The Applied Mathematics Laboratory of the David Taylor Model Basin produces Electronic Failure Report Tabulations for The Bureau of Ships. Analyzing approximately 35,000 failure reports each month is accomplished by the use of UNIVAC, a large-scale electronic computer. Fourteen edited reports of various sequences and formats are available through computer processing. This report contains a description of the problem and details of how it is produced on the computer. Author
