An analysis is made of the effects of jet and rocket operation on the static longitudinal and directional stability of airplanes. Formulae and charts are presented for the estimation of these effects. Sample calculations for a typical fighter airplane are presented and discussed. The effects of jet and rocket operation on static longitudinal stability are similar to the effect of running propellers, that is, usually destabilizing. Author
