There are presented the results of the practical application of radioactive isotopes for different purposes investigation of the effect of the structural composition of the steel on its adaptability for being machined, research of the resistance to wear of different kinds of cutting tools--cutters, drills, and milling tools, and the solution of problems arising in industry. There are shown the conditions for the application of standard equipment for the purpose of investigating the wear of cutting tools, and the need for the application in a number of cases of scintillation counters.
