A summary report is given of research performed over a three year period in the interrelated areas of continuum physics 1 theory of energy transport and transformation in continuous systems, with emphasis on active-stress mechanisms of chemical to mechanical energy transformation in anisotropic materials 2 field theory as it applied to densities, transport fluxes, transformation rates, and especially the occurrence and symmetry properties of dynamic structure and 3 theory of structured continua, with emphasis on studies of simple precursors of continuous systems and on use of polarization variables to represent internal configuration in constitutive equations.
