Abstract:

Preliminary experiments of rotational temperature measurements in the nitrogen flow field of a low density free jet from a sonic orifice are made, using electron beam fluorescence with a spectrograph. In the first case of the pressure ratio of 10001, the measured rotational temperature appears to include the transition region from a continuum to a frozen temperature, and in the second case of the ratio of 500015 it appears to include both the continuum-frozen transition and the shock transition region.
