Abstract:

A study was initiated to investigate the value of tiering transporters in relation to their possible application to BuSandA materials handling problems within Quonset type storehouses found at the majority of overseas bases where a minimum amount of aisle space is allowed for operation of mechanical labor saving devices. The report contains a description of the tiering transporter and the tests to which it was subjected, an analysis of its practicability and conclusions. In general, it was decided that the tiering transporter, as described in the report is not particularly adapted to the handling of palletized commodities as usually found as naval supply activities.
