Abstract:
After having shown under which conditions the derivation of a potential equation is possible in magneto-gasdynamics, the derivation is discussed. Since there is a change of type at the transit from the subcritical range to the supercritical one, the variational method is the only possibility to obtain a homogeneous solution for both ranges. The variational problem which belongs to the potential equation is discussed and solved for a ratio of the specific heats of 1.5 for the flow past a cylinder. The two figures show the flow lines and the lines of the same Mach number for a cylinder with the radius of 1 m, a magnetic field of 10,000 Gauss and an initial flow velocity of 500msec. Author
