Abstract:
A study was undertaken to evaluate the performance of a collapsible aluminum household container and determine its acceptability for Navy use. It was concluded that 1 the aluminum household container is structurally sound 2 the load capacity may be safely increased from the rated 1800 lbs. 7.5 lbs. per cu.ft. to 3700 lbs. 15 lbs. per cu.ft. 3 the sling hooks lifting lugs are inadequate and should not be used for handling purposes 4 prolonged exposure to weather or salt spray should be avoided 5 the roof design precludes tiering of containers. Minor modification and reinforcement using similar materials will permit conformance to recommendations received in field service reports.
