Abstract:

Flight trials to assess the effectiveness of modern electronic flash systems of U.S. origin, when used with an available British camera and British film, were made. Three different units, with different flash powers, were tried. The areas of ground illuminated, and the heights from which photography was possible were measured for each unit. The evenness of the illumination and the effect of back-glare from atmospheric haze were examined. An into-dusk flight confirmed that there should be no difficulty in using electronic flash to boost fading daylight after sunset. Author
