Abstract:

Brambing and Raether Phys. Rev-Letters. v15 p882 1965 reported the detection of radiation from the electron plasma in metal films excited by an obliquely incident optical beam. Attempts to repeat this experiment using light from a hydrogen discharge lamp focused onto a 300A silver film did not yield a positive result. Further attempts using a higher intensity light source and a more sensitive detection system are planned. Certain relevant aspects of plasma oscillations in metals are discussed.
