Abstract:

The accuracy of the determination of gravity parameters and geocentric station coordinates on the basis of observations of artificial satellites was investigated. This was accomplished by studying the effects of various factors such as geodetic constraints, time span of data, number of data classes, number of satellites, and the magnitude of the random noise in the observations on these parameters. The results indicate that the potentiality for significant improvement in the current knowledge of the earths gravity field and of the geocentric coordinates of positions on the earth is inherent in any of the three classes of instrumentation considered.
