Abstract:
The report describes frequency stability performance versus time on several types of moderate and precision quartz crystal oscillators over a period of several years. Many of the oscillators are older units intended for use in a controlled environment with no restrictions on size and power consumption present-day standards used in modern Army equipment are also represented. All of the oscillators evaluated in this report were compared with the USAECOM Primary Frequency Standard. A description of the instrumentation used to obtain the frequency stability data is given and its accuracy is discussed. A specially performed test of starting and stopping two crystal oscillators is included and their warmup characteristics and ability to return to the original frequency are described. Author
