Values of the hyperfine structure constants are calculated theoretically for many-electron atoms within the limits of nonrelativistic quantum mechanics and are compared with experimental data. By comparison of the ratios of the experimental values for the magnetic hyperfine structure constants with a certain ratio of the magnetic moments and spins for isotopes of the same term, it is shown that the discrepancy between theory and experiment cannot be completely eliminated by refinement of the orbitals alone. One must allow for an additional contribution from the magnetic interaction between the electrons and the spatially finite atomic nucleus. Author
