Abstract:
Concepts leading to the possibility of infrared emission from the depletion region of a PN junction when placed in a magnetic field are discussed. The first of these is the phenomenon of guided electromagnetic waves propagating along the depletion region of a PN junction. The second is the possibility of exciting these waves by transitions of electrons between the magnetic energy levels. A super conducting magnet and a zinc doped germanium photodetector used for experimental tests are described. Some preliminary experiments and suggestions for further work are presented. Author
