UNIQUENESS OF THE CONCENTRATED-LOAD PROBLEM IN THE LINEAR THEORY OF COUPLE-STRESS ELASTICITY

A uniqueness theorem for concentrated-surface-load problems in the linear theory of couple-stress elasticity is presented. The concentrated loads are replaced by a statically equivalent stress system distributed over a semi- circular cut of radius rho about r zero, where r is the distance measured from the point of application of the singular loads. In the limit as rho approaches zero, the solution to the original problem is recovered. It is found that the conventional- and couple-stress singularities can at most be zeror.
