One of the primary considerations in the design of CX-11230 G cable assembly was its shielding effectiveness. The cable assembly is to be used with PCM Multiplex Sets ANTCC-44 thru -46 to provide 12, 24, and 48-channel cable links in the field army communication system. Inadequate shielding results in loss of PCM pulse transmission due to pickup from external sources, and permits excessive radiation causing interference with nearby communications equipment. Consequently, a method had to be devised to evaluate the various design approaches to determine the adequacy of shielding effectiveness. It was necessary to correlate laboratory data with field data in order for the laboratory data to be used with confidence as a design tool. This report describes a laboratory method, utilizing a Triaxial Shielding Effectiveness Tester, for evaluating the relative shielding effectiveness of various cable designs. Author
