Abstract:

Tests were conducted to obtain data required for the evaluation of titanium alloy 6Al-6V-2Sn-4Zr. Tests were conducted on notched and unnotched tensile specimens at temperatures ranging from -321 F to 437 F. Notch radii were varied from 0.001 inch to 0.100 inch Kt 1.8 to 8. The results show that 1 notch tensile strength may increase up to 275 percent as notch radius increases 2 there exists an optimum notch radius and 3 tensile and yield strengths decrease approximately 30 percent as temperature increases from -148 to 437 F.
