Abstract:
The purpose of this report is to examine the framework underlying the formation of theories which use constructs representing oppositional forces and the utility of viewing the non-predicted results of construct interaction as emergent properties or as a requirement for new constructs. It is concluded that constructs of the inhibition type refer to an entire domain of negation of a phenomena rather than a single referent. This leads to non-predictability. It is shown that neither the production of new constructs nor an assumption of emergence is logically pure. Choice between approaches must be based on esthetic and pragmatic criteria. Author
