Abstract:
The pseudo-Brewster angle technique for measuring the optical constants of an opaque sample with a specular surface is described. A knowledge of the pseudo-Brewster angle phi-B at which the ratio R-parallelR-perpendicular is a minimum and of the value of the minimum ratio at phi-B is sufficient to characterize the solid. An experimental procedure for determining these optical constants is presented, as well as a method of correcting for the presence of an oxide film layer. Results are shown of the pseudo-Brewster angle technique as applied to germanium. Author
