The analysis of the scoring methods used for performance on the SAE at Little Creek and at Coronado has shown two widely differing performances when applied to the same data. The need for a standard scoring method that more adequately reflects team performance is apparent. Further investigation of the scoring procedure and of the assignment of points to components of the performance will substantially contribute to a more adequate scoring procedure. The deficiencies of the present evaluation procedure and the operation of the equipment of the SAE were presented. The results clearly indicate that the SAE in its present condition is not being utilized effectively as an evaluator. The equipment should be calibrated to eliminate errors adequate measures of performance should be recorded and a reliable scoring method should be developed before any conclusion can be drawn as to the effectiveness of the SAE in evaluating gunnery teams.
